Planning a drive on the 101 (Pacific Coast Highway)? You might not want to miss out on some great places along the way. These places are great for just stretching while stopping to spend some time taking in the sights. These are the top seven stops on your way through Northern California’s 101.

Redwood National State Park

Soak up nature and history in one area. These trees reach higher than many skyscrapers. It’s not often that you can find such amazing feats of nature. Don’t miss out on this during your road trip. It is definitely worth the time.

Bixby Bridge

This is the bridge is also known as the Rainbow bridge because of the Rainbow lodge near it. The bridge allowed the residents of Big Sur to get around during the winter. You might have seen this bridge on television, on postcards, and more! It’s a popular and widely photographed piece of architecture.

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Not only is this a beautiful aquarium, the scientists here work hard to tackle the issues that are facing marine life today. Their aquarium is home to exotic and majestic creatures that you won’t see in your everyday life. The exhibits are set up with the animals and you in mind. When you visit you will have many exhibits you can visit and the aquarium is near many great places to eat.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

The Boardwalk has 34 rides, two of which are historic landmarks. You can experience the landmark while having fun with those you care about. These rides cover different age groups, so even your little ones should have fun while there. Once you are done you can hop back on the road or enjoy their surfing, amazing food, or fun shops.

Palace of Fine Arts

This historical monument was built during WWI. It was built to bring people together and was to showcase art. While there were many buildings in the area for this purpose, they tore down most of them. However, the residents believed this one was too beautiful and precious to be torn down. Today, it is a theatre for people come and enjoy.

Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the world and the most photographed as well. You can stop in San Francisco for pictures and stay to see the sites! This bridge is absolutely stunning and at the very least you should take a drive over the bridge and fully enjoy what it has to offer.

Glass Beach

These beaches began as dump sites, but in the 60’s were cleaned up. However, the glass and pottery remain and the rough edges became soft from the waves. As many as 1,000 people visit each year and many take some of the glass home with them. The town has talked about ways to replenish the glass on the beach but no decisions have been made. You don’t want to miss out on see this. If you get the chance, come visit.

Reasons to Visit Sacramento

Northern California has many amazing places to visit. One of those places is Sacramento. They have many attractions, athletic teams, and wonderful natural sites to view. Here are five of the places you should try and visit on your trip.

Downtown Sac (shopping, railroad museum, and underground tunnels)

If you are looking for a part of Sacramento that you can walk around and soak up a lot of the culture, Downtown is the place to be! They have so many amazing shops for you to check out, including Evangeline’s Gift and Costume Mansion. They have a great selection year round.

A couple blocks from Evangeline’s in the California Railroad Museum and many old trains out on exhibit around the area for photo opportunities or just to admire.

They also have underground city tours. The underground tunnels came from Sacramento building their city up higher during the 1870s to keep the city from flooding. They also offer night tours for those who want a different type of experience underground.

Sacramento Kings Basketball and Sacramento Republic FC

During your stay in Sacramento, we suggest viewing a Sacramento Kings game or even a Sacramento Republic FC game. You will get a chance to see some of the great people in our town and experience some of the excitement in the area.

American River

Whether you want to bike on the trails or get out on the river, you will enjoy this area. There are great hiking and paved biking trails if you want to go up and down the river. They also have a great place for you to stop and picnic by yourself, with a friend, or a loved one.

If you plan on getting out on the river and you don’t have the equipment, don’t worry! There are rentals near the river. This includes places that will give you a guided tour of the river.

Great places to eat

Sacramento has a wide variety of restaurants for you to try. This includes places like Mikuni, they offer delicious sushi and fun drinks you will love to try. The servers are friendly, the meals are reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is fun.

If you are looking for fine dining, there is Biba. Many customers rave about how superb the food is. It has been one of the best restaurants in Sacramento for about twenty years. Come try it for yourself!

There are plenty of family friendly parks and attractions to keep you and your children occupied and making great memories. This includes the Children’s Museum, zoo, and other amusement parks.

As many of you may, or may not know, the city of Vallejo has served as the capital of California for small periods of time. There is a lot of history in this area and it is close to many attractions, as well as home to many attractions. Here are the top five places you might want to check out on your next trip.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

If you want to spend the day riding roller coasters and enjoying other rides, this is the place to be. They have many different types of roller coasters and they are adding Wonder Woman Lasso of Truth, which will be opening in 2017.

They also have rides that will spin you around and a virtual ride as well. Not only can you enjoy rides, but they also have animals to see as well, including alligator isle and ocean discovery.

You also have a chance to get up close and personal with some of these animals. A couple of these encounters are swimming with the dolphins and riding an elephant. This place is so much more than rides. Where else can you experience so much in one park?

Empress Theatre

This Theatre has been through so many big events in California. That is partially why the outside is still original (Built in 1911) and the inside matches the 1930s era which was when it was redone.

Currently, they host lots of live music and shows for people to enjoy. You can also view and learn some of the amazing history of the Empress Theatre.

Mare Island

This island has some great history, including how it got its name. The island was named after a General lost so many things, but found his mare on the island and named it after the horse.

Later, the government used this island as a shipyard and has been used a place to film a few movies. Currently, the citizens in the area are trying to preserve the historic buildings. If you get a chance to visit this island, you will get to see pieces of histories.

Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum

This museum has many different galleries within it. Giving you a full picture of the area, its history, and so much more. The building it is in is well maintained. This attraction will not take all day to view, but you will leave with a history lesson that will make the area that much more interesting and help you feel that much more connected.
