Things to do in Northern California During the Holidays

The holiday season is upon us and many people are looking for fun things to do that they have not experienced already. If you are looking for the best place to enjoy the holidays with your family or friends, here are a few suggestions of what to do in Northern California. These places are loved by many and you are sure to enjoy yourself there.

  1. Outdoor Ice Rinks
  2. Throughout the state there are many ice rinks. Yosemite National Park has a beautiful one that is open to the public. They offer a heated tent for you to change your shoes in and across the street is the perfect place to get something warm to drink.

  3. San Francisco tree lighting, concerts, and more
  4. If you are looking for more than on holiday festivity to enjoy in one day, then San Francisco is the perfect place. They have plays, concerts, tree lighting, and more planned for this year. Whether it’s your first time or hundredth, you will see something new during the holiday season.

  5. The Polar Express Train
  6. Many states have their own version of the Polar Express and Northern California is no different. Cities such as Sacramento, Biggs, and other cities have their own stop where children can visit with Santa and tell them what they would like for Christmas this year.

  7. Fairytale Land in Sacramento
  8. Fairytale Land has festive lights and crafts set up on certain days for families to enjoy. The weekend is the best time to visit because they have Victorian carolers, even more activities, and photo ops with Santa (only $5). The weekend fun happens on December 8th-11th and 15th-18th.   9. Christmas Convoy through the Redwoods
  10. Don’t miss out on seeing about 50-100 large trucks filled with lights and more convoy through the redwoods. On December 10th, at 6pm in Eureka, you can grab a spot on the road and watch an amazing parade of lights and entertainment.

  11. Six Flags Global Kingdom Festivities
  12. They have more than one event going on this holiday season. On November 12th they have a color run where you can come in white and leave looking like a rainbow. Then, on November 25th to January 1st you can play around with Holiday in the Park. They will have a snow globe you can enter, Santa will be there, and so much more.

    Finally, on December 11th, they are celebrating Las Posadas. You can travel around the park while enjoying mariachi music, dancing, and, of course, the rides!

  13. Christmas Tree Lane in Fresno
  14. This is fun for friends and family members of all ages. Walk down Christmas Tree Lane and you will see many houses with spectacular lights displayed for your enjoyment. Not only do you get to view these fun lights, but many houses include their own Christmas music. Also, keep an eye out when you are there for the hidden 12 reindeer. If you get cold there are a couple spots for you to grab something warm to drink.

Top Sports Teams in Northern California

Can’t get enough of sports in your life? Northern California is filled with great athletics that will sustain your need for, well, sports. Just in case you aren’t sure which teams to follow or you want to know the top teams in the area, here they are:

  1. Golden State Warriors

    This amazing basketball team is picked to do well this next year. They have had many great players over the years and continue to capture more talent. In 2015, they defeated the Cavaliers to go onto the NBA Finals. They are located in Oakland, California.

  2. San Francisco Giants

    Not only are the Giants a great baseball team (Their most recent World Series victories are in 2010, 2012, and 2014), but their stadium in San Francisco, CA is beautiful. They have surrounded the stadium with statues and more honoring past players. If you want to watch great baseball and be in an area where fans are loved, San Francisco Giants stadium is right for you.

  3. San Jose Sharks

    The San Jose Sharks saw their first chance at the Stanley Cup in 2015. Their tradition of coming out through the shark on the ice in at the beginning of the game is worth watching even if you aren’t already a hockey fan. However, beware that you might end up never wanting to miss another game of theirs.

  4. Oakland Raiders

    In Northern California, you have the opportunity to choose between two football teams. The Oakland Raiders continue to improve with California native Derek Carr leading the way. Their stadium has lots of history and the fans are well, enthusiastic. Check them out and watch a great football game this season.

  5. San Francisco 49ers

    The 49ers are a fun team to watch, especially when they play one of their biggest rivals, the Seattle Seahawks. This team, even though they are associated with San Francisco is playing in Santa Clara in Levi’s Stadium.

  6. Oakland Athletics (A’s)

    The Oakland A’s is another great baseball team in Northern California. Their most recent titles are the West Division titles in 2012 and 2013. Fun fact, the A’s were named after a local gentlemen’s club in Philadelphia. While they were once located in Philadelphia, they have been located in Oakland since 1968.

  7. San Jose Earthquakes

    Who is ready for some fun soccer chants and relaxation? San Jose Earthquakes have been around for 22 years (They used to be the San Jose Clash). In 2014, they made it to the CONCACAF Championships. They currently play in Avaya Stadium in San Jose.

  8. Sacramento Kings

    The Sacramento Kings are the only professional team in Sacramento, CA. The Kings have made some great changes to their roster for the next season. Come check it out. For the 2016-2017 seasons they will be playing in the Golden 1 center.
