As many of you may, or may not know, the city of Vallejo has served as the capital of California for small periods of time. There is a lot of history in this area and it is close to many attractions, as well as home to many attractions. Here are the top five places you might want to check out on your next trip.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

If you want to spend the day riding roller coasters and enjoying other rides, this is the place to be. They have many different types of roller coasters and they are adding Wonder Woman Lasso of Truth, which will be opening in 2017.

They also have rides that will spin you around and a virtual ride as well. Not only can you enjoy rides, but they also have animals to see as well, including alligator isle and ocean discovery.

You also have a chance to get up close and personal with some of these animals. A couple of these encounters are swimming with the dolphins and riding an elephant. This place is so much more than rides. Where else can you experience so much in one park?

Empress Theatre

This Theatre has been through so many big events in California. That is partially why the outside is still original (Built in 1911) and the inside matches the 1930s era which was when it was redone.

Currently, they host lots of live music and shows for people to enjoy. You can also view and learn some of the amazing history of the Empress Theatre.

Mare Island

This island has some great history, including how it got its name. The island was named after a General lost so many things, but found his mare on the island and named it after the horse.

Later, the government used this island as a shipyard and has been used a place to film a few movies. Currently, the citizens in the area are trying to preserve the historic buildings. If you get a chance to visit this island, you will get to see pieces of histories.

Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum

This museum has many different galleries within it. Giving you a full picture of the area, its history, and so much more. The building it is in is well maintained. This attraction will not take all day to view, but you will leave with a history lesson that will make the area that much more interesting and help you feel that much more connected.

Vezer Family Vineyard

Whether you love wine tasting, are looking for a place to have a wedding, or a place for a special event, Vezer Family Vineyard is perfect! They have a gorgeous setup with a charming rustic view. Top Things to do in Bakersfield

Bakersfield is full of great museums and things to see. We decided to list you a few places that you want to consider visiting while you are there.

California Area Living Museum

This zoo has over 60 types of animals for you to view at a reasonable price. Besides the exhibits, they have a children’s playground and a family area to enjoy a meal. And, if you are feeling daring you can take the Condor Challenge. It’s a ropes challenge course with a climbing tower.

November 25 - December 31st they have the Holiday Lights. Tour the trails of lights with the people you love. You will be in a happy holiday spirit after a great night viewing these lights.

Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace and Museum

The Crystal Palace has delicious food, a gift shop, and so much more. If you want, you can catch a concert in the area. If you are planning a trip with over 6 people you will want to reserve your rooms.

The museum is home to Buck Owen’s guitars, suits, and memorabilia. You will not be able to see these things anywhere else.

Kern County Museum

This museum has interactive and fun things to learn about all in one place. This includes the Black Gold Oil Experience and Children’s Development Center. You can also take the time to walk around 50 historic buildings.

There is also many restored neon signs for you to view, including a 1940s gas sign.

Nature and Wildlife Tours

Whether you are with your significant other, friends, or family, there are plenty of things for you to do at the Wind Wolves Wildlife Preserve. They have a 4 - 6 mile hike called the El Camino Viejo Wilderness Hike. There is also the EcoKidz, which is a free activity for you to do with your children.

Rafting and Tubing

During the warmer months you can go on a guide rafting tour with places like River’s End Rafting. These guided tours will ensure that you are safe and have fun. You can also go tubing. It’s never too soon to start planning your summer fun activities.

Kern River Parkway and Trail

There are two trails for you to choose from, however, keep in mind that the North trail is for horseback riding and the south trail is for jogging, hiking, and biking. It is a 6,000 acre park for you to take in nature.

Bakersfield Museum and Art

This museum has been open for 60 years and the exhibits are always changing, however the home to the museum has changed throughout the years. Their goal is to inspire you with diverse paintings.

If you pay attention you can catch a free day. They work hard to make the art fun for all ages.

Buena Vista Museum of Natural History

If you are into Earth science and history, then this is the best place for you to visit. You can see and learn about the biological and ecological science that surrounds us. If you want to dig for fossils, then you can sign up to join.
