How to Keep Yourself Healthy

by ShannonH 12 May 2014 10:10

Anyone who has suffered through a miserable cold or flu likely wants to avoid repeating the experience. The bad news first: You can't avoid everything. But the good news is you can avoid a lot if you take the following steps toward prevention.

Wash your hands. Your hands come into contact with more germs on a daily basis than you can count. Clean your hands regularly to cut down on disease exposure. A good scrub with soap and water is best. But an alcohol-based hand rub can fill in if there's no sink nearby, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Adopt healthy habits. Your body is better able to ward off invaders if it's in top shape. So exercise and maintain a healthy diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, according to the University of California San Francisco.

Avoid people who are ill. If someone is sick, you should try to avoid letting them cough and sneeze near you, if possible.

If you do get sick, the Valley Yellow Pages can help you find a doctor in your area with its online, mobile and print listings, to help you get you back on your feet.

Come See Us

Let’s face it—the Central Valley isn't usually the first location that people think of when they decide to tour the state.Vineyard

It's not easy to compete with Disneyland, Hollywood, Napa, San Francisco and other world-renowned attractions in our state. But the Central Valley has plenty to offer, too.

The print version of the Valley Yellow Pages includes many sites of interest for folks that live in the state and visitors from elsewhere.

Agriculture is our biggest industry. And local chambers of commerce, government farming offices and other resources can provide help finding interesting tours (Hilmar Cheese, Gallo Winery, etc.) for tourists.

And you can find contact info for them in the Valley Yellow Pages.

The Valley is also not far from regional attractions, such as Yosemite and Paso Robes either. Travelers can easily find lodging, dining and other Valley offerings when passing through.

The print version of the Valley Yellow Pages—still a trusted source.

Plan a Party Like a Pro

by ShannonH 25 November 2013 12:08

Got a special event coming up or are you just in need a fun night with friends? It's time to brush up on your party planning skills. Below are some tips for making your shindig a success whether you're throwing a big bash or a low-key gathering.

Avoid creating unnecessary stress. If you're an amateur in the kitchen, don't plan on serving your guests a complex multi-course meal. Plan ahead and choose easy dishes that are within your comfort zone.

Break the standard party formula. It's OK to go outside the traditional party format and shake things up a little. And don’t fixate on making everything perfect—your guests will still have fun even if things go awry.

Shake up your invites. Get creative with the guest list. Mix up different groups of friends from different backgrounds to make things interesting.

When in doubt, call in the pros. If you're insecure about your party planning skills, you can also hire a party planner or event consultant to guide you through the process. The Valley Yellow Pages can help you find a professional planner in your area. Search our print version, website or mobile app!
