Best things about Bakersfield

by Guest Author 7 November 2017 10:55

Bakerfield is the ninth largest city in California and is not known for one thing. If you visit this area you will learn that you probably will not see a common theme to what you are looking at and you will be perfectly fine with that. Here are a few things for you to consider doing if you want to visit and some fun facts as well.

A couple fun facts

Some people think that most of the oil in the United States is done so in Texas, however, it is really California. Bakersfield is the oil capital of California. While driving through the area you will see some oil rigs.

Buck Owens was a part of the Buckaroos and they developed their brand of country music in Bakersfield. That is why the Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace is such a great place for people to visit because they get a little bit of history with their fun.

Lots of fun things to do

Many places have theaters, stores, and museums, but not every place has speedway or an antiques mall. These are two things you will find here and so much more.

  • Bakersfield Speedway
This is just one of the few raceways they have. This dirt track is fun to watch no matter your age. People love the action and enjoy the food. To top it off, finding parking is not hard here because they have made enough space for people.

  • Central Park Antique Mall
Instead of driving around different areas in search for the perfect antique mall to find that one piece you were looking for, consider shopping at this antiques mall. You will find many vendors under one roof and hopefully that special piece as well. Even if you want to just walk around a see what there is, you will leave happy.

Great choices for food

There are so many great places to eat in the area, so we picked a few places that are popular in the area and have excellent food.

  • Wool Growers Restaurant
This restaurant has a long history starting in 1954 with a small family. They still serve food using the same recipes as the founders along with some newer things. One of the long time recipes is Mayie’s beans and you can eat it today. If you have never had Basque food before, you are missing out and should come in to Wool Growers Restaurant.

  • Uricchio’s Trattoria
This is an elegant Italian restaurant with a romantic atmosphere. There isn’t one dish that people love to talk about here because there are so many amazing options to choose from. This place is not too expensive, but not cheap as well. It’s a great place for your next date night.

  • Mama Roomba
They were featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. He loved their authentic Caribbean cuisine and we think you will as well. This is a fun place to eat because of the friendly atmosphere this family run restaurant has created. If you want some suggestions on what to try, we say the tri-tip.

If you decide to take a trip to Bakersfield, we hope you get the time to experience some of these places. is here to help you make sure you get the information you need.
