First Day Preparation
It may feel like summer just started but all good things must come to an end. With the first day of school just around the corner, start preparing now to get your kids ready for the big day. Begin by taking inventory of what clothing and supplies can carry over from the year before. Try on pants, shirts and shoes to make sure they still fit. Inspect lunch bags, back-packs, notebooks, etc., to see if they can withstand one more year.
Two weeks before school starts, gradually introduce an earlier sleep schedule. A later summer sunset means later bedtimes and an instant overnight adjustment may be too dramatic. Begin sending kids to bed a little earlier and waking them earlier in the morning to help them adjust to a new school schedule so they are bright and alter on day one!
Celebrating the American Worker
The first Labor Day was observed over 100 years ago in New York. Peter McGuire the General Secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a co-founder of the American Federation of Labor suggested the day to honor and pay tribute to those “who from rude nature have delved and carved the grandeur we behold.”
What began as a day to salute the hard work, entrepreneurial spirit and determination of American workers continues today as we recognize it is their contribution that makes this country prosper. Celebrate with one of these Labor Day ideas:
Plan a Picnic
Make Homemade Ice Cream
Relax with a Good Book
Make Home Improvements
Have a Backyard Barbeque
Play 18 Holes
Supporting a Renewable Resource
In addition to offering the highest quality product possible for both customers and advertisers, Valley Yellow Pages believes in protecting the environment. This is why every directory we create is 100% recyclable and the vendors we purchase our paper from are some of the most environmentally conscious companies in the industry.
And while our directories are printed on paper, most paper manufacturers in North America replace the trees they harvest. In fact, according to the USDA Forest Service, 4 million trees are planted every day in the United States – 43% by the wood and paper industries. Trees are a renewable resource; to help continue their growth, several times a year Valley Yellow Pages and Tree Fresno Partners up to plant trees at local schools in the communities we serve. Our most recent tree planting occurred in Reedley and Orange Cove, California where 50 trees were planted at several elementary and secondary schools.
Valley Yellow Pages has a strong belief in protecting the environment and giving back to the communities we serve. Planting trees in various communities helps to provide much needed shade, beauty and clean air to the citizens who live there. Protecting natural resources and ensuring their growth will continue to be our strong commitment. Click here to read more about our tree planting efforts.
Valley Yellow Pages Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary
Twenty-five years ago, AGI Publishing, Inc. was founded to provide direct competition in a marketplace once monopolized by utility phone companies. In 1988, dba Valley Yellow Pages, AGI Inc., published its first Yellow Pages directory serving the cities of Fresno and Clovis, California. Since the first directory, Valley Yellow Pages has expanded its reach to include 46 directories throughout Northern and Central California. Today, 7.7 million directories are published annually, reaching over 14.8 million people in California.
Many things have changed over the past 25 years and as the number of our print directories increased, so did our product offerings. To meet the needs of a digital marketplace, Valley Yellow Pages developed MyYP.com, our online Yellow Pages directory. Offering internet and mobile directories, MyYP.com extends the advantages of Yellow Pages in convenient and portable formats. Businesses and service offerings can be found quickly and easily, along with driving directions and click-to-call features.
As the marketplace continues to evolve, Valley Yellow Pages is committed to delivering a quality print and online product to benefit both consumers and advertisers in our communities. We thank all of our customers and advertisers, and appreciate your help in making our company a great success. We look forward to serving you for the next 25 years and expanding our services to ensure we continue to provide the Better Book.
