The very method of marketing has changed from being primarily outbound to being mostly inbound. What does this mean? Outbound marketing refers to the method of putting your advertisements out to the consumers. Whereas inbound marketing takes the opposite approach. Its goal is to attract customers to the company. In the former, advertising is sent out and in the latter customers are coming in for information about your product or service.

Not only do we have a new approach to marketing, but new content is necessary as well. Companies who engage in outbound marketing are pushing their company's message out to the consumer in the way of commercial advertisements, print ads, tradeshows, and seminars. Therefore, the content is more company-focused. It's all about what the company can do. Whereas with inbound marketing, companies attract consumers by delivering appropriate content on their website and social media sites. Inbound marketing content is customer-focused.

Changed Delivery

Traditional advertising is often delivered via the TV, radio, or newspaper. However, inbound marketing delivers your content -- whatever form it may be (i.e. blog, video, webinar, trial offer, etc.) -- to whatever platforms you choose, usually your company website and social media sites. The great thing is it can be accessed right from a smartphone, which people usually always have on them. The delivery method has the potential to reach a vast number of people.

As marketing continues to evolve, it will shape how businesses interact with their customers.
