Northern California Bucket List

by Guest Author 8 August 2017 08:29

We want you to have a chance to read about some of the greatest places in Northern California. The following is a short list of places you may not have heard about or thought of.

Take Your Time and Drive the 1

If you want a beautiful drive, this is the perfect one. There are plenty of unique places to stop and tour. You will have the chance to view the ocean and so much more. You won’t have to stray far from the highway to find a place to eat or sleep.

Wave Organ in San Francisco

Constructed in 1986, this acoustic sculpture was created in honor of Frank Oppenheimer. They have benches for you and somebody special listen to the music made by the waves. It’s near the jetty and is constructed of 25 PVC pipes and concrete. The best time to visit this spot is during high tide. Don’t worry though; there are plenty of things to see in San Francisco.

Pan for Gold in El Dorado County

Come look for gold in the area that started the gold rush. Whether you have done it before or want to learn, you will have fun. There are a few places in the area that offers lessons if you want to learn how experienced people do it.

A&W Root Beer Birth Place in Lodi

This place is so much better than even the canned A&W Root Beer. If you are lucky they will have an old car show in town for you to enjoy. The root beer tastes fresh and if you are feeling like making it extra special, request their root beer float. There is so much more to do in Lodi, including Micke Grove Park Regional Park. If you want to look for something specific, check this out!

Sunken Ship

In Aptos, CA, there is a large cement ship at the end of a pier. The SS Palo Alto was built for WWII but the war was over upon its completion. So, the company moved to Aptos as a tourist attraction and filled it with amenities. However, the people didn’t see it as a fun place to visit. The company that owned the ship eventually went bankrupt and the ship stayed. The ship is not longer safe to actually go on, but they have a museum with more information on about the ship and you can walk down the pier to the ship. It is well worth the trip. You can add it to the places to stop on your drive down the 1.

Hike Mt. Shasta

You don’t want to miss the beautiful views and a chance to say you have been to the highest peak in Northern California. This hike isn’t easy though. It’s something that you want to put some effort into getting ready for it. In the end, you will be proud and excited to be at the peak of an active volcano.

McArthur-Burney Falls

A few people have deemed this the eighth wonder of the world. It’s a 129 foot waterfall that gets a lot of its water from springs in the area. It’s gorgeous. There are great trails in the area for you to hike and make a day out of this experience.

Walk Pebble Beach

If you want to go on the 17 mile drive, you can view pebble beach and the lone cypress. Or, you can always walk around and enjoy the view. Pebble beach is known for more than their beach, they have world renowned golfing.
