Bakersfield is full of great museums and things to see. We decided to list you a few places that you want to consider visiting while you are there.

California Area Living Museum

This zoo has over 60 types of animals for you to view at a reasonable price. Besides the exhibits, they have a children’s playground and a family area to enjoy a meal. And, if you are feeling daring you can take the Condor Challenge. It’s a ropes challenge course with a climbing tower.

November 25 - December 31st they have the Holiday Lights. Tour the trails of lights with the people you love. You will be in a happy holiday spirit after a great night viewing these lights.

Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace and Museum

The Crystal Palace has delicious food, a gift shop, and so much more. If you want, you can catch a concert in the area. If you are planning a trip with over 6 people you will want to reserve your rooms.

The museum is home to Buck Owen’s guitars, suits, and memorabilia. You will not be able to see these things anywhere else.

Kern County Museum

This museum has interactive and fun things to learn about all in one place. This includes the Black Gold Oil Experience and Children’s Development Center. You can also take the time to walk around 50 historic buildings.

There is also many restored neon signs for you to view, including a 1940s gas sign.

Nature and Wildlife Tours

Whether you are with your significant other, friends, or family, there are plenty of things for you to do at the Wind Wolves Wildlife Preserve. They have a 4 - 6 mile hike called the El Camino Viejo Wilderness Hike. There is also the EcoKidz, which is a free activity for you to do with your children.

Rafting and Tubing

During the warmer months you can go on a guide rafting tour with places like River’s End Rafting. These guided tours will ensure that you are safe and have fun. You can also go tubing. It’s never too soon to start planning your summer fun activities.

Kern River Parkway and Trail

There are two trails for you to choose from, however, keep in mind that the North trail is for horseback riding and the south trail is for jogging, hiking, and biking. It is a 6,000 acre park for you to take in nature.

This museum has been open for 60 years and the exhibits are always changing, however the home to the museum has changed throughout the years. Their goal is to inspire you with diverse paintings.

Fun Things to do in Antioch

Whether you are visiting for business, vacation, or another reason, we want you to enjoy your time. Enjoy nature and some of the fun attractions in or near Antioch. Here are some of the best places to visit while you are in town.

Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve

Walk the trails and view the area that has a long history. As you might know, the area was used for coal mining for a while (black diamonds. Now, you will see lots of vegetation and potentially some animals. They have a few species of animals that you may or may not see while you are there. During the springtime, the area is filled with wildflowers. It is one of the prettiest sights in the area.

Antioch National Dunes Wildlife

This is one of the only National wildlife refuges in the country. For the safety of the area’s plants and animals, the public is not allowed to just hike through the area. However, if you call and set up an appointment you can get a guided tour. The refuge also gives monthly guided tours for educational purposes. If you have interest about the area and how you can help, this is the perfect place for you.

Lone Tree Golf Course

Looking for food, golf, or a place for an upcoming wedding? This golf course has it all. They have a lovely restaurant and their golf course was created a few holes at a time. Two of the original holes that were constructed still have the original green. This is why these two holes have such small greens and require great accuracy. Test your skills, plan the perfect wedding, and eat a great meal all in one day.

Prewett Family Park

They have a gym, water park, and a place to reserve for parties. If you have your children (or grandchildren) with you then you will have a great place to take them. Not only can you drop in to have fun, but you can also sign up for some of the recreation classes.

The water park is great for children, especially if they are elementary age. Plan some fun in your stay with Prewett Family Park.

Antioch Historical Society Museum

If you want to view art and learn about the history of the area, this is the place to be. The building itself is a historical landmark in the area. It was once the local high school. There is plenty of parking and admission is free. They have a selection of paintings and drawings on display for you to see besides learning about the area.

Antioch Speedway

Listen to the roar of the engines at Antioch Speedway. You can buy your tickets at the raceway and they have great concessions that include wine coolers and beer. Their races start at 5pm and their grandstand is first come first serve. That’s right; you don’t have to pay more for different seating.
